Abstract

As ridesharing firms become bigger and more popular, the focus for researchers shifts from optimizing a single platform to understanding the effects of multiple platforms competing with other, and with other transportation modes, in particular, public transit. I will present some of our work in tackling these questions - in particular, in trying to understand the operational losses due to multiple ridesharing platforms, and the challenges of designing a mobility marketplace: a centralized platform where private mobility providers and public transit can jointly offer hybrid multi-modal trips to commuters. Based on joint work with Chamsi Hssaine, Thibault Sejourne, Raga Gopalakrishnan and Samitha Samaranayake.
