Dan-Alexandru Olteanu

Professor, University of Zurich

Dan Olteanu is a full professor at the University of Zurich and was previously full professor at the University of Oxford. His research is primarily on database systems and theory. He co-authored the book "Probabilistic Databases" (2011). He serves as: chair of ICDT council (2022-); editor for PVLDB (2023, 2020, 2012), IEEE TKDE (2013-2015), ACM TODS (2018-), and the SIGMOD Record database principles column (2019-); PC vice chair for SIGMOD 2017; PC chair for ICDT 2022. He is the recipient of the ICDT 2022 Test of Time award for factorised databases, the ICDT 2019 best paper award for optimal dynamic computation, SIGMOD 2018 Distinguished PC member award, ERC Consolidator grant (2015), and Oxford Outstanding Teaching award (2009). His works on in-database machine learning, dynamic computation for analytics, and declarative probabilistic programming were invited to the best-of-conference (ICDT 2016 and 2019, PODS 2018 and 2019) issues of ACM TODS.
