Abstract

I will present two projects at the intersection of algorithms and mechanism design with power systems that were conceived or developed in part during the Simons Real-Time Decision-Making semester in spring 2018. One is "Electric Vehicle Valet" on how to utilize electric vehicles (EVs) as mobile energy storage to help with grid support, that prompted us to develop several scheduling approximation algorithms. The second one is "Prosumer Pricing" which presents a new electricity pricing scheme that allows utility companies to more fairly divide their internal overhead costs among traditional and solar (or other) power - generating consumers, and thus better control the level of penetration of solar power.
