Xiaoxia (Shirley) Wu is a PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin, supervised by Rachel Ward and informally co-supervised by Leon Bottou. She was a research intern at Facebook AI Research.
Shirley’s research interests are in the areas of optimization and machine learning. Her focus is on understanding and improving the optimization methods in neural network, particularly, stochastic adaptive gradient descent and batch normalization.
