Samantha Chiu

Graduate Student, University of Maryland

Samantha specializes in scientific quantitative and qualitative data collection, with a focus on the data science of public opinion and survey methodology. She works with hard-to-reach populations, including those in conflict and crisis zones. Samantha has managed over 65 international projects, in nearly 30 countries. This includes longitudinal public opinion surveys, impact evaluations, and assessments with deployments in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Haiti, Indonesia, and Malaysia. She has managed and trained international and domestic field teams to collect national-level data where non-prior exist, with special attention to quality control and sampling validity.

Her current research interests include data privacy issues due to the demand for meta-data aggregation, leading to classification and identification issues for the Department of Defense. Samantha is a graduate student in the Joint Program in Survey Methodology at the University of Maryland. She is the Chief Data Officer for Witness Change and the Past-Chair of Business for Statistics Without Borders. At Booz Allen Hamilton, Samantha is a Senior Operations Research Analyst and Lead Data Methodologist.
