Mert Vural

Nuri Mert Vural is a postdoctoral scholar in the Machine Learning Research Pod at the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing at UC Berkeley. His research interests include optimization and learning theory, with a particular focus on developing explainable models for deep learning and understanding newly emerging phenomena in modern machine learning. He completed his PhD at the University of Toronto and was affiliated with the Vector Institute under the supervision of Murat A. Erdogdu. He also interned at the Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Mathematics in Summer 2025.
