Kudos!
Hats off to the many members of the worldwide Simons Institute community who have been making a splash in the last weeks.
Congratulations to the newly elected 2026 members of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Royal Society (UK) from the theory, algorithms, and related mathematical sciences communities, including Peter Bartlett, Scott Aaronson, Salil Vadhan, and Tim Roughgarden — all of whom have had especially close ties to the Simons Institute through leadership, advisory-board service, and/or program organization. We also congratulate inductees Manindra Agrawal, Robert Calderbank, Maria Chudnovsky, Jordan Ellenberg, Michael Hutchings, Jitendra Malik, and Tandy Warnow, whose work and Simons Institute connections span algebraic complexity, coding theory, computational biology, computer vision, and many areas of mathematics.
In other good news, Vice Chancellor Kathy Yelick, who chairs our Governance Board, was recently appointed Director of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. IIT Madras recently opened the Srilatha and Prabhakar Raghavan Centre for Information & Society, funded by a generous gift by our good friend and colleague Prabhakar Raghavan, who served as the Chair of our Scientific Advisory Board, and his wife, Srilatha Raghavan. And Monika Henzinger, who is currently on our Scientific Advisory Board, was named the 2026-2027 ACM Athena Lecturer, an honor that recognizes women researchers who have made fundamental contributions to computer science.
Please join us in congratulating our vibrant and productive research community on their accomplishments!
