Description

All Simons Institute visitors are invited to a second short workshop where we will discuss how to write for a non-specialist audience, at a range of lengths, and how to get journalists interested in your work, if you’d like them to be. We’ll discuss how to successfully pitch op-eds to editors—and how to effectively write them. We’ll talk about longer articles as well, along with book proposals for trade books.

How does one capture and hold a reader’s attention? And, having captured that attention, what ingredients are crucial to successful writing for non-specialists? What common pitfalls must one avoid?

Attendees are invited to submit a piece of writing to workshop, and to RSVP by Friday Nov 22nd, so they can be given preparatory materials. For those who attended the first workshop, we will continue the discussion in greater depth. However, attendance at the first workshop is by no means a pre-requisite, nor is submitting writing to be workshopped. All are welcome.
