Description

All Simons Institute visitors are invited to a short workshop where we will discuss how to write for a non-specialist audience, at a range of lengths, and how to get journalists interested in your work, if you’d like them to be. We’ll discuss how to successfully pitch op-eds to editors—and how to effectively write them. We’ll talk about longer articles as well, along with book proposals for trade books.

How does one capture and hold an editor’s attention? And, having captured that attention, what ingredients are crucial to successful writing for non-specialists? What common pitfalls must one avoid?

Please do come with ideas in hand for things you would like to write (however preliminary they might be) so that we can discuss them. But do come if you’re interested even if you don’t have anything specific you want to work on.
