Abstract

One of the goals of evolutionary theory must be to obtain quantitative estimates of the rate at which evolution progresses, so that we may confront the theory with the empirical facts we have about the history of life on earth.

But to speak of a rate of progress implies that progress is somehow proportional to time. In this talk I will discuss two models that call into question the extent to which this implication is justified. The results reported are joint work with Adi Livnat.
