Vivek Shripad Borkar

Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay

Vivek Shripad Borkar obtained his Bachelor of Technology in electrical engineering from IIT Bombay in 1976, and his MS in systems and control engineerin from Case Western Reserve University in 1977, and PhD in EECS from the University of California, Berkeley in 1980. He has held positions at TIFR Centre for Applicable Mathematics and Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, prior to joining IIT Bombay in 2011. He has held visiting positions at the University of Twente, MIT, the University of Maryland at College Park and the University of California at Berkeley, in addition to short term positions in several other places. He is a fellow of IEEE, AMS, TWAS and the science and engineering academies in India. He has been awarded the Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award and TWAS award for engineering and technology and Homi Bhabbha and J.C. Bose Fellowships among other awards, and was an invited speaker at ICM 2006 in Madrid.
