Assistant Professor, Northeastern University

Sina Fazelpour is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Computer Science at Northeastern University, where he is a core member of the Institute for Experiential AI. He is also the 2020-21 Council Fellow on the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Data Policy. Sina’s core research areas are in philosophy of science, cognitive science, and ethics of science and technology. His current research—on responsible artificial intelligence and on diversity’s impact on group decision-making—seeks to characterize potential functional and ethical failure modes in complex sociotechnical systems that shape key societal decisions, and ultimately devise appropriate tools for responding to them. Before joining Northeastern, Sina was a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University, with a secondary affiliation with the Machine Learning Department. In addition to a PhD in Philosophy, he holds an MSc in medical biophysics and a BEng in electrical and biomedical engineering.
