Shrinu Kushagra completed his undergraduate work at IIT Kharagpur in India, where he majored in Computer Science and Engineering. He graduated in 2011, after which he worked as a Software Engineer at Amazon, India for about a year, in the payments platform team. In 2012, Kushagra entered the masters program in computer science at the University of Waterloo, where he worked with Shai Ben-David on statistical machine learning. After finishing his masters in August 2014, he enrolled in the PhD program at the same institute, with the same advisor, and is currently second-year PhD student. His current research is on statistical clustering. Kushagra hopes to build a theoretical framework which can help guide the choice, and explain the success, of clustering algorithms. Besides research, he has also done some industry internships, the most recent being at Pinterest in the ads-ranking team.
