A few years ago, computer scientists Adam Bouland (Stanford), Bill Fefferman (University of Chicago), and Umesh Vazirani (Simons Institute, UC Berkeley) wrote a paper that promises to radically change the way we think about the interiors of black holes. In this recent Quantum Colloquium talk inspired by their paper, Leonard Susskind (Stanford) explains how black holes threaten the quantum-extended Church-Turing thesis and how the properties of horizons rescue the thesis; he goes on to make predictions for the complexity of extracting information from behind the black hole horizon.
