Avi Wigderson and László Lovász Receive 2021 Abel Prize

Former Simons Institute Scientific Advisory Board member Avi Wigderson (Institute for Advanced Study) and László Lovász (Eötvös Loránd University) have been awarded the 2021 Abel Prize “for their foundational contributions to theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics, and their leading role in shaping them into central fields of modern mathematics.”

The Abel Prize is awarded by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in recognition of "outstanding scientific work in the field of mathematics" and is regarded by many as equivalent to a Nobel Prize in mathematics — a field for which no Nobel Prize exists.
