Community guidelines for accompanying children

The Simons Institute is an inclusive community that strives to facilitate the participation of scientists with young families by providing a family care stipend for visits of more than 30 days, and by ensuring that the Institute is open to occasional visits by family members.

We have developed the following community guidelines regarding the presence of small children (under 12 years of age) in the building, to accommodate the needs of all of our visitors, as well as Institute faculty and staff.

We ask that visitors with children kindly observe the following:

● A parent or caretaker should remain in active attendance at all times, and not allow children to wander around the Institute unsupervised.

● Ensure that children’s activities (playing, writing on white boards, etc.) don’t disrupt the work of other building occupants.

● Refreshments at tea times and receptions are intended for our visiting scientists. While Institute visitors may share these provisions in moderation with their children, we ask that children not take food directly from the table.

● Ensure that children don’t go near the coffee/hot water machines in the second floor kitchen, or use the hot water and coffee carafes.

● Out of consideration for the research environment, we ask that you limit children’s presence in the building to no more than an hour or two on a given day.
