Abstract
Using algebra to approach real world problems often requires understanding solutions to equations and inequalities over the real numbers. Since real polynomials do not always have real roots, special theoretical and computational tools are needed to study real algebraic sets. I will give an introduction to these techniques and present some interesting applications.
