Mark Embree is a Professor of Mathematics at Virginia Tech, where he directed the undergraduate major in Computational Modeling and Data Analytics from 2015-2025. Previously he was on the faculty of Computational and Applied Mathematics at Rice University (2002-2013), following graduate work (with Andy Wathen) and a post-doc (with Nick Trefethen) at Oxford. His research focuses on matrix computations (especially iterative methods for linear systems and eigenvalue problems) and spectral theory, especially for non-self-adjoint operators.
