Over the past twenty years, randomized dimensionality reduction, commonly known as sketching, has established itself as a fundamental tool in the theory and practice of matrix computations. This talk will provide an overview of sketching, describing what sketching is, how sketching is used to accelerate matrix computations, and various constructions of sketching operators.
